"CHANUKAH HOLIDAY"

Welcome LOVE and PEACE into your holiday message.

The spirit of the Maccabees:  "Not by might, not by power, but by spirit."

We teach our children this message at Chanukah, to tell the story of how the Maccabees
succeeded in defending Judea. It reminds us to celebrate this holiday by also celebrating
the enduring presence of the Jewish people in Israel.

PEACE on Earth.

Chanukah - Hanukkah - Hanukah
Chanukah begins sundown Wednesday November 27th
1st Candle in evening (yes, right before Thanksgiving)

"Festival of Lights"
Eight Days of Chanukah November 28th - December 5th

Kislev, the name of the Jewish Month in which Hanukkah is celebrated is also the same month that the Hindu New Year, Diwali begins. Both Diwali and Chanukah are called the "Festival of Lights." Diwali is a 5 day festival that started November 3.

Thanksgiving & Hanukkah

Thanksgiving - Chanukah Connection: Chanukah begins Wednesday night, the eve of the 25th of Kislev and American Thanksgiving is on the 28th of November, 2013. (Canadian Thanksgiving is in October, coinciding with Columbus Day)
Connection? In the past, over 100 years ago, Thanksgiving coincided with the first day of Chanukah on November 29, 1888. It also coincided with the fifth day of Chanukah on November 30, 1899. The next time Thanksgiving and Chanukah will coincide would be when Thanksgiving falls on Chanukah eve in the year 2070 and after that, in 2165.

Christmas & Hanukkah

re: Christmas & Hanukkah- source - Herman Wouk's book, This is My God, Page 80 -
The two festivals have one real point of contact (and it is not the lights). Had the Maccabbees failed and Antiochus succeeded in obliterating Jewry a century and a half before the birth Jesus (Jesus was Jewish), there would be no Christmas. The feast of the Nativity rests on the victory of Hanukkah.
